Burna Boy looses out Grammy Award to Angélique Kidjo.






Nigerian singer and songwriter Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu known in the music sphere as Burna Boy lost out the Grammy Award to Beninese singer Angélique Kidjo at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards held yesterday.

The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles yesterday to recognise artistes with the best recording, compositions and artistes of the eligible year.

Burna Boy was who was nominated in the World Best Music Category for his album "African Giant" along with four other artistes. Netherlands music band Altin Guns' Gece, Brooklyn born Haitian artiste Nathalie Joachims' Fanm J'ayiti, Bokante and Metropole Orkesets' What Heat and Angelique Kidjos' Celia were all nominated for the World Best Music Category.





The "Dangote" hit maker played his bit in the category but failed to become the seventh Nigerian to win the award after loosing out to three time award winner Angelique Kidjo. Angelique Kidjo won her fourth Grammy Award with her album Celia beating Burna Boys' "African Giant" and three others to it.

Despite loosing the award however, Burna Boys' nomination was a huge milestone which has opened doors for new artistes from Africa. Burna Boy however has high hopes of winning the award in the nearby future as his musical prowess and lyrical delivery keeps improving.

Angelique Kidjo in her acceptance speech however dedicated her award to Burna Boy praising the wealth and talent of young artistes from Africa.





"The new generation of artists coming from Africa are going to take you by storm and the time has come... This is for Burna Boy, he is among those young artistes from Africa who are changing the way our continent is perceived and the way African music has been the bedrock for every type of music", Angelique Kidjo remarked in her acceptance speech.

We wish Burna Boy the best in his music endeavors and hope he wins the Grammy soon.
