Meet the Cristiano Ronaldo of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Ghana music has come a long way since it’s inception in the 1950’s where Higher life popularly known as High life was introduced.
Popular Ghanaian high life musicians include ET Mensah , Kofi Ghanaba, Daddy Lumba, Amakye Dede, among others.
In the early 1990’s, Hip life became a new brand of music among Ghanaians. Hip life which was introduced by the Grand papa Reggie Rockstone is a blend of rap using the indigenous languages.
Reggie Rockstone released songs such as “Keep your eyes on the road, Ah, which featured KK Fosu, a song which quickly shot to prominence. During the early Hip life regime, artistes such as, Reggie Zippie, Bollie, Dunsin, Obour, Obrafour among others made their mark with the new introduction of the Ghanaian musical genre.
Fast forward to the 2010’s, musical acts such as, Sarkodie, Yaa Pono, Asem, Richie, among others stepped into the music scene to propel Hip life to the next level. In modern day Ghana, acts such as Sarkodie and Yaa Pono are still in the scene but other new acts such as, Medikal, Yaw Tog, Eno Barony, Freda Rhymz, Kwesi Arthur, Kwaku Flick, M.anifest, among others have also stepped in to make a name for themselves.
But one musical act who has dominated the Ghana music scene for sometime now is Martin King Arthur.
Martin King Arthur popularly known as Kofi Kinaata has dominated the Ghana music scene for some years now stipulating his name as one of the finest artistes in Ghana at the moment.
Last year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) 2020, Kofi Kinaata won three awards on the night which included the Highlife Song of the year award with Things Fall Apart, Vodafone Most Popular song of the year award with Things Fall Apart and the Song Writer of the year award with Things Fall Apart.
Kofi Kinaata made history last year at the VGMA 2020 by pulling off a ‘Real Madrid’ when he bagged the Song Writer of the Year award for the third consecutive time.
This year was no different as Kofi Kinaata broke his record and set a new one by bagging the Song Writer of the Year award for the fourth consecutive time with his hit single Behind the Scenes at the just ended VGMA 2021.
Kofi Kinaata has by far proven his worth and has shown that his pen game is far different from the rest.
Many can argue that it’s an award scheme which is won by voting but there are other factor determinants which add up to make a person victorious such as, how well ones music has performed over the year, the amount of streams, among others.
But with hit songs like, Adam and Eve, Single and Free, Things Fall Apart, Behind the Scenes among others, Kofi Kinaata has proven that his writing prowess are by far different and unique from the rest and is the ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’ of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
