Mzbel’s submission on Tiwa Savages’ leaked tape totally wrong and uncalled for.

 

The entertainment space in recent years has become one for subterfuge in order to put one’s name out there and as they say, “stay relevant” despite what it takes. This can be linked to the Press Agentry model of Public Relations where organizations do whatever it takes to stay relevant. Not to skew away from the topic of discussion, entertainment provides people with joy, happiness and motivation to go on. Lyrics speak to people and gives them hope to continue moving on for there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. Not to sideline the movie industry, movies, also a form of entertainment provides hope, teaches lessons and also provides motivation to others.

Now to the issue at hand, as stated earlier, modern day entertainment has become one for subterfuge where most entertainers want to stay relevant no matter what it takes. Despite this being the case, not all entertainers tow this path and thus shouldn’t be included in this space.

Tiwatope Savage Balogun popularly known in the entertainment space as Tiwa Savage few days ago was in the media space for the negative reason as her sex tape got leaked.  This is unusual of her as she isn’t controversial and for more that two and a half decades, haven’t been involved in any controversy like other celebrities. As a woman, especially in an African setting, your pride remains in not exposing sensitive parts of your body to the public. And this leaked sex tape is wrong on so many different levels.

But despite the emotional and psychological trauma Tiwa might be going through now, some people including celebrities have taken to social media to bastardize her and this I find very sickening and uncalled for.  One of these celebrities is Ghanaian former entertainer turned entrepreneur Mzbel. 

Mzbel took to social media to make her submission on Tiwas leaked sex tape and despite we all having opinions, most a time we make wrong submissions.This is due to the fact that we rush to make submissions and don’t critically analyze the issues at hand.  A look at the leaked sex tape shows Tiwa highly intoxicated as the video was being taken.

  First off, she had no idea of what was going on and from the video she did not give the man who took the video the go ahead to.  Which is totally s criminal offense and should be taken very seriously.  Due to this, Tiwa Savage has lost four endorsements deals due to a reckless act by a man who wanted to prove he has laid a celebrity. 

Mzbel making her submission mentioned that Tiwa engaged in the sexual act and the video got leaked in order to promote her new song. No critical thinking skills, no analysis just mere accusations. From Mzbel’s submission, reading in between the lines, she’s accusing Tiwa of being aware of the act which is never true. She has no empirical evidence whatsoever to prove what she’s saying. Just mere

accusations.

 Again, she being a woman who claimed she got raped in 2006 of which everyone believed and sympathized with her should not have made such degrading claims against Tiwa Savage. Tiwa Savage is currently under the management of five top record labels who all work hand in hand to promote the vibrant young woman.

 She’s under; Mavin Records, Island Records, Motown, Universal Music Group and Capitol Records. Mzbel doesn’t think these record labels can promote Tiwa Savage well enough than for her to use a leaked sex tape to promote music? Which kind of porous thinking is that? Tiwa Savages net worth currently stands at a whopping five million dollars. And Mzbel doesn’t think she has enough money to promote her new song? I mean let’s be serious.

The fact that it is a media space does not mean one can get up and just make any claims against a fellow person… Bad news they say sells and the media has a high power to influence others. We should all be very cautious about claims we make in the media space as these claims by Mzbel cannot be proven, isn’t accurate and is full of lies.

 This is a case of defamation of character as these claims against Tiwa goes a long way to defame her reputation, a reputation she has built over so many years. Not only that, in the corporate environment, Tiwa Savage is the face of many brands and companies and this in thoughtful act by the one who took and leaked the video without Tiwas permission and these claims by Mzbel goes a long way to also tarnish the image of these companies who are represented by Tiwa Savage. 

 Although the harm has already been done, instead of looking down on Tiwa and calling her all sort of names, we should rather rally behind her and seek for justice.

Despite ignorance not being an excuse, taking advantage of a persons weakness and using it against her has no connection with her being ignorant.  If we keep pushing the blame on Tiwa as people including Mzbel have already started, it goes a long way to give blackmailers the chance and upper hand to continue in their quest to turning the image and reputation of people. This can happen to anyone. Let’s not place Tiwa Savage at the wrong side of the coin.
